Each month in 2020,
DeClieu Coffee and Sandwich, in downtown Fairfax, VA, will feature a new seasonal art piece on their art wall. These original canvas paintings will be for sale during the month that they are featured.
The month will be defined by a word or a few words that describe the painting. These words are also CLUES for the phrase of 2020. Can you find de clue?
The first person who discovers the phrase of 2020 will win an original 9”x12” personal portrait. Check out the month of April when the wall will feature portraits of DeClieu clients.
Sign up for the Mailing List to receive notifications when the new paintings are up, when they go on sale, and what the new word is for each month. This DeClieu 2020 View page will be updated monthly with the images and words for the month.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

April. The word for April is ‘SELF-IMAGE‘
“Too many people overvalue what they are not, and undervalue what they are.” – Malcolm S. Forbes
The April display of 14 individual portraits did not go up on the wall at DeClieu because of the COVID-19 virus quarantine. However, all 14 portraits are for sale and each one is priced at $100. Find them HERE.
May. The word for May is ‘EPIDEMIC’
“Thought is an infection. In the case of certain thoughts, it becomes an epidemic.” -Wallace Stevens
During the month of May, our nation has shut down for the COVID-19 epidemic. People are reacting in a wide array of emotions, from fear to peace. During these unusual times, may God calm your fears and give you His peace. Stay safe.
During the pandemic of 2020, DeClieu Coffee decided to cover their art wall with shelves. All future paintings for the DeClieu 2020 View will be posted here online. The game will play out until December of 2020 when the final monthly word will be named. Best of luck in figuring out the phrase for the Declieu 2020 View. And remember, the first one to guess the phrase will win a free portrait.
June. The word for June is ‘TIME‘
“Time is a gift, not a burden. Do not treat a gift as if it were a burden.”
-Gretchen Rubin
During this pandemic, we have had unregulated time. It has been disruptive, sometimes frustrating, unscheduled, and most likely never to be experienced ever again. I hope you were able to enjoy it.
July. The word for July is ‘HERITAGE’
“Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127: 3-5
This July installment is actually a very old painting of my Mom and Dad. She just passed away last week and we buried her yesterday. They were married 55 years and raised 5 kids. I see their heritage in the faces of their 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Rest in Peace.
August. The word for August is ‘EXPERIENCE’
“Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.”
-Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture
This summer has been one of many new experiences since COVID-19 disrupted the art wall at DeClieu. Now with social distancing, all murals have stopped. But I am looking forward to the harvest that will grow from this disruption. My focus has shifted back to writing.
The DeClieu 2020 View will continue until the end of the year, when all the clues will have been posted. Happy Treasure Hunting!
